U-MHI Platech Announces Plans to Build New Manufacturing Plant for Injection Molding Machines

TOKYO, October 25, 2018 —U-MHI Platech Co., Ltd., an UBE Group company, today announced that it has decided to lease a new manufacturing plant for injection molding machines. Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, Ltd. will build the plant on the grounds of its Oye Factory in the Minato Ward of Nagoya City, which U-MHI Platech will operate as its new manufacturing facility.
The Oye Factory, U-MHI Platech’s new plant, will be constructed on a roughly 18,000 square-meter plot situated near the Higashi Nagoyako Station on the Nagoya Railroad (Meitetsu). The construction will begin in December 2018 and is scheduled to be completed in March 2020. U-MHI Platech will transfer its operations from the current Iwatsuka Factory in the Nakamura Ward of Nagoya City to the Oye Factory in July 2020.
The current Iwatsuka Factory is spread across several buildings housing manufacturing equipment, materials, and work in progress. The Oye Factory will have a new layout that is tailored for the manufacturing processes of a dedicated injection molding machine plan, realizing efficient production. The establishment of a modern new manufacturing facility in the Nagoya region puts UMHI Platech in close proximity to the automotive industry, which is concentrated in the Tokai region from which the company draws its core customers, in turn enhancing the company’s competitiveness. U-MHI Platech will endeavor to achieve rapid production of high-quality injection molding machines to meet the needs of customers at the cutting-edge plant.
During the transition period, U-MHI Platech will optimally manage both facilities to ensure that its production is not affected. The construction of the Oye Factory will enable U-MHI Platech to provide products and services that further enhance customer satisfaction, as the entire UBE Group endeavors to raise its presence in global markets.
